Colliers Wood Fireflies Take Flight: A Fun-Filled Adventure at the Horniman Museum!
Excitement buzzed through the air at Colliers Wood Nursery as the Fireflies (youngest age group) geared up for their big adventure. The arrival of Ted, one of the familiar faces from the minibus team, and the sight of the bright yellow hi-vis jackets sent a wave of “Trip! Trip!” echoing through the room. The anticipation was palpable!
Their destination? The wonders of the Horniman Museum & Gardens in Forest Hill, London. With the summer holidays in full swing, the traffic was light, making the journey a breeze. Sunny skies and cheerful chatter filled the minibus, setting the stage for a fantastic day.
Upon arrival, the Fireflies were greeted by a treasure trove of sights and sounds. The extensive collection of visual anthropology transported them to different cultures and eras. They marveled at historic pieces, each whispering stories of the past. The outdoor musical instruments sparked their curiosity, igniting an interest in rhythm and melody.
But the day wasn’t just about artifacts and exhibits. The opportunity to witness a real-life swarm of buzzing bees was a thrilling experience, connecting them with the wonders of nature. They even got to feel the textures of different woodland animals through specially made models, bringing the natural world to life.
Of course, no trip to a zoo or farm is complete without encountering some furry (or feathery!) friends. The Fireflies embarked on a mini Animal Walk, where they were greeted by curious alpacas, playful goats, fluffy sheep, and adorable rabbits. Each encounter brought squeals of delight and wide-eyed wonder.
After a day filled with exploration and discovery, it was time for a well-deserved lunch break. Nestled in a peaceful green space, the Fireflies enjoyed their picnic lunch, surrounded by the calming sounds of nature. The perfect ending to a perfect day? A chorus of contented snores echoing throughout the minibus ride back to nursery – a testament to the excitement and joy of their adventure.
This trip to the Horniman Museum wasn’t just a fun outing; it was a valuable learning experience. The Fireflies were exposed to different cultures, explored the wonders of the natural world, and interacted with fascinating animals. These experiences will undoubtedly spark their curiosity and shape their understanding of the world around them.
